All my days I will sing this song of gladness, Give my praise to the fountain of delight, For in my helplessness, You heard my cry, And waves of mercy poured down on my life

Hi Honey, I'm home!

Today is the day! I'm coming back! Only for a short visit but nevertheless very exciting! I'm flying this afternoon 3:15pm. Can't wait to see the Highlands again! I'm really looking forward to see all my dear old friends again. It really hasn't been that long but I miss them anyway!

Sunday night is Unite! And I wouldn't be Aafke if I wouldn't be a part of it! I'm playing a small part in the drama. I think I'm going to be a carol singer. Oh holy night...

So maybe I'll see some of you this weekend. Keep your eye out for me!

And the winner is...

...André Rouvoet! Well not the biggest winner but hey: I voted for him and his amount of votes doubled this election! Great results for the ChristianUnion! They rule!!! Not literally...but they might be invited to join the formation of the new coalition. So exciting. Most you will most likely think; whatever Aafke: boring! But politics fascinate me enormously. Just have to share the joy!The Christian Democrates are the biggest party of Holland. A good and decent party but their christian values are fading... But the alternative was a Socialists party with a very unreliable leader.

All in all in; I'm pleased with the results! Stayed up till about 1 o'clock last night so now I'm rather tired! One more day and it's weekend! Party time!

Yes prime minister...

Today is the day: election day! I'm so excited! I will stay up all night to hear the results! Most likely this man will be our next prime minister, Jan Peter Balkenende. Not the best but the alternative is much worse! I will vote in a few hours...come back tomorrow for the final results!

Medicine woman

I haven't been to doctor in over 12 years! Well I went to the hospital for my injured leg last year. But hey; that was for the Lord! This is something else: I've got a bladder infection! I will disgust you with all the yukky details but I must admit I'm glad the medication is kicking in!

I've been having some pain over the 10 last days. But stubborn as I am I didn't want to go to the doctor. But this weekend woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn't get back to sleep. My weekend off! That was it. I could take no more! My beauty sleeps of 12 hours a night are very important! Can't have that interupted!

So went to the doctors on monday and got some medication. I'll just pretend they're jelly beans and I will be mighty fine again soon!

To vote or not to vote...

I love elections!!! Next week Holland will choose their new parliament. I'm so excited! What will it be this year? Who can tell? Elections in Holland are never boring. Politicans debattle for weeks and weeks and try to convince everyone to vote for their party. Unlike Britain and USA, Holland has a large varity of political parties you can vote for. A big christian party which will most likely win again. A liberal party, a social party, a very social party, an anti-christ party (well not officaly but they're the ones responsible for the approval of laws like gay marriage, abortion, euthanasia etc.). 15 different parties are joining the elections. Mostly like 10 of them will end up in parliament.

I just get so excited. For some people it might seem boring but I enjoy watching all their debates and attempts to gain votes. My vote will go to a small christian party. Last time I voted for the large christian party but they've lost their christian values over the years. This party; the ChristianUnion, has not. I could talk about politics for hours and hours but I will not bore you any more. Just a bit more background info..

In Holland all politicans fight for the last votes. And even when they've been elected they just keep fighting. This is our 3rd election in about 5 1/2 years! The cabinet keeps falling apart because of all their internal fights among ministers and politicans. A few elections back one of the politicans got killed by a crazy man who wanted to prevent him to join the cabinet. It's a mad world sometimes...

This post might have bored the life out of you...but for me this week is ultimately exciting! Bring on the votes! I can't wait for the results. For me this even more exciting than watching Connie win How do solve a problem like Maria or to see Darren dancing his way to victory in Strictly come dancing! Whoopa whahey!

Aafke behind bars

I might end up in prison soon...who would have thought this of innocent Aafke... Well, I won't have to stay for long. It would only be for a few hours. No, I didn't do anything wrong! It would be for a band performance! Haha! Got ya!

This week I went for an audition to join a worship band. I was so nervous, you won't believe it! I so wanted to cancel. I know I'm not the best singer in the world but I do enjoy singing. But if that would be enough? Anyways, I just joined in the practice. Almost all the songs were new ones! But it was so much fun! I'm invited to come back next week and just see where it goes.

The band is rather professional. Great musicans. Their main goal is to bring the gospel into the prisons. They're a part of Prison Ministeries Holland. But they also perform at churches, events and parties. I'll just have to see where the road will take me. This band will take up a lot of time and I'm not quite sure if I'm good enough to stay in the band. We'll see... I'm also going to search to join a new church as I'm moving in four weeks! Yeah!!! I really long to join a new church. I miss Nethy Church!!! But can't dwell in the past. Need to look forward! I'm thinking of joining the Vineyard. I would like to get involved again with the church.

Anyways...two weeks to go...laddies & lassies, I'm coming back!

I'll never let go Dolly, I'll never let go

Must see Dolly, must see Dolly. As I am a big fan of Dolly I made myself the promise that if she would ever come to Holland, I would go to her concert and boogie the night away! And tatatata: she's coming in March. There I was sitting in front of my computer early in the morning to order tickets. She would only give one concert so I needed to be early. Well, just as I was about to finalize the order my computer crashed... A sign not to go? Never!!!! But when I tried again all the tickets where sold out. As you will understand I was so heartbroken that Dolly could have written a number 1 hit about me.

I tried to forget about this great disappointment untill today... My lovely friend Marjolein invited me to go to the concert. When I booked the ticket I was planning to go alone. I didn't think I socialised with Dolly fans... But it turns out I do! So now Dolly is back in the picture and we are going to try and get tickets.

I so want to go! I'm not really a huge fan or anything. Well, I was but not anymore. But I just know that if I would miss this 9 to 5 yamming party I could not forgive myself for just giving up. So Dolly honey, Here I come again...

Little Aafke in the big city

The flow of blessings seems never ending... Normally it takes months to find a place to live in Utrecht, the city I will soon inhabite. It only took me a few days... The way it goes in Holland is that you can apply for a room and the flatmates invite you over for an interview to see if they like you. This flat had only one flatmate to impress.

I saw this flat on the internet and applied. Went for an interview and loved the appartment. My own room and my very own balcony! I'd be sharing the living room, kitchen and bathroom with one other girl. I really really wanted the room but it was up to the girl to decide if she could live with me. She said she would let me know by the end of the week. I got a phone call only 5 minutes later that if I wanted the room, it was mine. Yeah, joy to the world!

Tomorrow I'm going to sign the contract. The current owner is going to travel in Australia and New Zealand for six months (...wouldn't that be loverly...) and I can rent her room for that period of time. I can even use all her stuff! This means I will not have to move all my junk. Even more Yeah! I'm very excited!!!

All the shops are nearby (haven't decided yet if that is a good thing for me...) and a warm turkish bakery only minutes away. And the best thing is: I will only have to travel about 30 minutes to get to work instead of 90 minutes. All good!

Everyone is welcome to come and visit!
